Studio is a tool in Canvas that can be used to create videos similar to Panopto. If you need to make basic videos such as introductions or simple discussion videos, Canvas Studio is a perfect option and is automatically available in nearly all Canvas courses.
To start, locate the "Studio" button on the left menu in Canvas.
1. Click on "Create" to begin making content. If you would like to start recording right away with a webcam, use the "Webcam Capture" option.
- If you already have created a video by other means, you can upload it directly by clicking on "Add Media." This option may also appear as "Upload From Computer."
- If you would like to begin recording with a webcam, click "Webcam Capture." This will allow you to record directly in your web browser. Please note that you must give Studio permission to access your camera and microphone or else it will say something has went wrong.
- If you would like to record something on your PC screen, you may click on "Screen Capture." This option downloads software currently available for Windows or Mac. It will allow you to capture your screen and then upload it as a video. *This feature may not be available on Chromebooks, Android, or iOS.
2. Once a video is created, you can access it from the My Library page. You can click on the three dots on the bottom right of a video to make changes and access other options.
3. To share a video, locate the assignment and enter the Rich Text Editor. This is a bar with several formatting options for text. This tool is most often used in discussion boards.
4. Click on the Apps icon that looks like a plug () and then click on "View All." *If you do not see this button, you may need to first click on the three dots highlighted on the image above to unfold the Rich Text Editor.
5. Search "Studio" in the provided search bar until the following appears. Then select "Studio."
6. Select your video from the library page by clicking on it once you have located what you would like to share. The search button (the magnifying glass) can help with locating your video if it doesn't appear on the first page. Once it has been selected and the options shown appear the way you would like them to be, click on "Embed Media."
