Regent University will be updating our SMS passcode policy for those who use SMS passcodes for authentication effective 12/09. This change enhances the security of our MFA platform by minimizing the window of time during which a passcode is usable, reducing the risk of unauthorized access.

Once these changes apply, SMS passcodes will have the following limitations:

  • Be valid for a limited period from the time of generation (2 minutes).

  • Be single-use only, meaning each passcode can only be used once for an authentication attempt.

Regent strongly recommends using other more secure forms of authentication such as mobile app-based passcodes. However, we recognize in some cases this is not always feasible. In those cases, SMS is allowed as a form of MFA. It is recommended only for exceptional use cases.
