How to Copy Announcements from an Old Course without Sending an Announcement to Students in the Old Class?
Dear Faculty,
When preparing for your upcoming course and copying announcements from a previous semester in Canvas, please follow these instructions to ensure that no accidental notifications are sent to students from past courses.
-
Access the Previous Course Shell:
- Navigate to your previous course (e.g., Fall 2023) in Canvas.
-
Locate the Announcement You Wish to Copy:
- Go to the "Announcements" section.
- Find the announcement you want to use in your new course (e.g., Fall 2024).
-
Copy the Announcement Text:
- Click "Edit" on the selected announcement.
- Copy the text from the announcement.
-
IMPORTANT: Click "Cancel" After Copying:
- Once you have copied the announcement text, DO NOT click "Save." Instead, click "Cancel" to avoid re-posting the announcement in the old course shell.
- If you click "Save," the announcement will be reposted, and students from the old course will receive a notification email.
-
Paste the Announcement in Your Current Course:
- Navigate to your current course (e.g., Fall 2024).
- Paste the announcement text into the new announcement for the current session.
By following these steps, you will avoid sending unintended notifications to students in previous courses. Please be mindful of this process whenever copying announcements between courses.
Thank you for your attention!
